Chair Yoga
Tuesdays 2pm Thursday 3pm £8 [email protected] Tutor: Penny Bond Chair yoga is a gentle practice in which postures are performed while seated and/or with the aid of a chair. Chair yoga is for anyone - if your mobility is limited, if you find standing tiring or you find getting up and down off the floor a challenge. |
What is it?
Chair yoga is a version of yoga that is practised sitting in a chair. It focuses on the breath with some gentle stretching. Chair-based yoga offers the same benefits as traditional yoga, such as boosting strength, flexibility, and mental well-being.
Who is it for?
Chair yoga is open to everyone whether you are new to yoga or whether you’re an experienced yogi. It’s inclusive and accessible and can be of particular benefit if your mobility is limited, if you find standing tiring or if getting up and down off the floor is a challenge. While many of those who practice chair yoga don’t have any specific health concerns it is a great option for people who may be living with long-term conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and pulmonary disease. Postures are all adaptable to meet the needs of those attending the class.
Benefits
Chair yoga has been shown to promote wellbeing, enhance mood, improve sleep, build strength, help balance and increase flexibility. It can also help to release tension and boost the nervous system.
