About Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a holistic body centred therapy and practice activating the body’s natural healing
and rebalancing response. With origins in Japan and roots in East Asian Medicine principles,
shiatsu uses sensitive touch, combining applied pressure, acupressure points, gentle
movement, joint mobilisations and breath work. In group settings self-shiatsu is an
empowering practice where people learn to tune in, listen and connect through touch with
their own body. This can enhance mind body awareness.
Shiatsu works with the physical systems in our body including our nervous, respiratory
andcirculatory system. Stimulation of acupressure points is beginning to show in modern
research that it may enhance the flow of blood and lymph, settle our nervous system and
circulate endorphins which are the feel good and pain relieving hormones in our body.
Benefits
Shiatsu literally translated as “finger-pressure” (shi – finger, atsu – pressure) can be used to
promote your overall health and wellbeing and can work with a wide range of heath
conditions. It is often experienced as a deeply relaxing and energising practice for body and
mind. Shiatsu may assist in the relief and management of stress and anxiety, muscular
tension, stiffness, discomfort and pain, and in enhancing your sleep, mobility and blood
circulation.
Shiatsu may be suitable for people of all ages and levels of health and fitness. Do get in
touch if you need more information and if you want to check if this class will be suitable with
your current health conditions or if you have any additional support needs.
Shiatsu and acupressure for health and wellbeing does not replace medical care needed. It
can work safely alongside medical care. If you have health concerns please consult your GP
or other medical health care professional.
